Mathematics and Statistics Programs
Vision
The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Program envisions to produce graduates honed in the exercise of mathematical thinking, disposed to the rigors of abstract analysis; disciplined in the language of logic and precision, and multifaceted in the process of problem-solving.
Mission
The program aims to keep up with the newly emerging fields of endeavor (i.e. mathematical economics and finance, communication and environmental problems, weather forecasts and climate change, bioinformatics, etc.) by offering a variety of applied mathematics courses in the areas of Statistics and Computer Science. The BS Mathematics curriculum also aims to continue to meet the new demands and challenges of the present time, producing graduates who are highly trainable and have a sense of social responsibility and discernment.
BS Mathematics
A four-year degree program with a total of 150 academic units which includes courses on mathematics, statistics, computer science, elective track, and general education.
The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (BS MATH) program envisions to produce graduates honed in the exercise of mathematical thinking, disposed to the rigors of abstract analysis; disciplined in the language of logic and precision, and multifaceted in the process of problem-solving.
The BS MATH curriculum also aims to continue to meet the new demands and challenges of the present time, producing graduates who are highly trainable and have a sense of social responsibility and discernment.
The BS MATH is designed to produce specialized, highly creative, and technologically adept graduates who likewise possess the versatility and flexibility to either work or to be trained in any field of relevance in the present information-driven community environment. Pure Mathematics courses are offered with a variety of Applied Mathematics courses in the areas of Statistics and Computer Science.
Considering the wide options for BS MATH graduates after graduation, the Pure Mathematics courses are sufficient preparation for the pursuit of further academic work, while the Statistics and the Computer Science courses serve to enhance the trainability and competitive edge of BS MATH graduates in the workplace, either locally or abroad.
BS Statistics
The Bachelor of Science in Statistics (BS STAT) program is designed to respond to the growing demand of the industry, government, academe, and research institutes for leaders (who are skilled and knowledgeable in data analysis), data scientists, analysts, academicians, and researchers.
The BS STAT is a four-year degree program with a total of 140-141 academic units in its curriculum which includes foundation courses such as Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, providing a strong foundation for students who would like to pursue graduate studies in statistics, data science or other related fields. Electives shall be offered for students to choose an area or discipline that they want to specialize in, encouraging the students to engage in an interdisciplinary environment of Statistics.
